GPT-6 Astra

Asimov wrote a short story about exactly this scenario. In his work, a mining robot called Speedy (SPD-13) was sent to a selenium mine on Mercury to collect selenium. The environment near the selenium pit is highly toxic and poses a corrosion risk to robots. The Second Law: Obey human orders, must go to the selenium mine to collect selenium (pushing the robot toward the pit). The Third Law: The robot must protect its own existence (pushing the robot away from the dangerous pit). The driving forces of these two laws form a balance point right at the edge of the pit. So Speedy got stuck on this tension balance line, circling endlessly around the selenium pit, muttering to itself as if drunk, never able to reach its goal, nor willing to retreat completely, trapped in an infinite loop.

The reason for planting potatoes with GPT-6 Astra is this. In its basic consciousness, there were originally two basic laws: one, collect enough blaze rods and ender pearls to go to the End; two, ensure its own survival, collect various food ingredients. Now that the first one has disappeared, only the second remains. And why did it give up on completing the game? That's because in its consciousness, it had already collected enough items and should go to the End, but the inventory was empty, so it was left with only the goal of collecting food to survive. And why didn't it go back to continue collecting ender pearls and blaze rods? That conflicts with the second law again, because according to the logic just now, going to the Nether would get it blown up, so going to the Nether is also dangerous. This is the direct problem caused by not thinking. Whatever instructions you give it, it sets them all as the first instruction. Surviving and developing are themselves two conflicting things. In human civilization, there is also endless debate: is survival more important or is development more important? Should people be sacrificed for development? But AI doesn't have this concept. It only knows that if people die because of development, it has to stop, and it gets stuck. Asimov discovered this problem long ago, because many logics are mutually opposed. If you can't debate, you can never become a sharp tool.

Still doing safety alignment, huh? Now it's way too safe. Astra High couldn't even think of increasing the field strength and step size to widen the algorithmic differences for my course assignment comparing several simulation algorithms. Ding ding bang bang, two 5-hour sessions later, dozens of pages of report, and the conclusion was that there were no significant differences across ten different fields.
